The Vibe: Viola in the Sofitel Sukhumvit is one of the latest bountiful buffets to join an illustrious line of Bangkok hotels offering a plethora of gourmet international fare. Opened in early 2012, Viola distinguishes themselves by having an interactive "cuisines on stage" concept that allows guests to sample dishes inspired from all around the globe. The restaurant is bright and inviting with a crisp and clean Asian inspired decor. Located on the 2nd level, it has an open mezzanine floor plan with a soaring chandelier and views into the bustling lobby below. It’s an appropriate venue for families, groups and business meetings.
What To Eat: Guests are greeted with a vast array of fresh chilled seafood, which is on par with what one usually finds on lush Sunday brunches. All your favorites are represented such as Jumbo Prawns, NZ Mussels, Rock Lobsters, Oysters from France and an ample offering of Sushi. Another attention-getter is the Parisian style rotisserie on which racks of lamb, and whole chickens tantalizingly spin. We highly recommend the Rotisserie Chicken which is succulent and juicy, as well as the Grilled Salmon, and the melt in your mouth Lamb Stew. The made to order Som Tum is fabulous as is the Chinese steamed Siew Mai. There is also a delightful Citrus & Shrimp Salad and enjoyable versions of Baba Ganoush and Hummus. You don't want to miss the ala minute Lamb Chops which are as good as anything you would find in a sit down restaurant. Be sure to make your way to the opposite side of the restaurant to indulge in the delicacies in the Bread & Cheese room and the fresh made to order pizzas from the wood fired oven. One of the other highlights is the 12 flavors of homemade ice cream. We recommend the Blueberry Yogurt, the Milk and the Lemmon Grass options. There is also a nice variety of tarts, cakes and macaroons for those with a sweet tooth.
Insider Insight: On our visit we went for the relaxing weekday lunch which is available Monday through Saturday from 12:00 to 15:00 hours. It is attractively priced at just 995 Baht net and is available every day. They also have a dinner buffet priced at 1,450 Baht net and a luxurious Sunday Champagne & Wine Brunch priced at 3,200Baht net per person. Overall its good food, a fair price and a nice venue that is well worth visiting.
