A trip to the ground floor in Siam Paragon in Bangkok has countless food treasures to delight any palate. However, the Mondrian Oriental Shop in particular has some of the most decadent treats available, and by far has some of the best homemade pates in Bangkok. The Mandarin Oriental Shop is a part of the Mandarin Oriental Hotel group, which has a reputation for world–class 5 star properties in Asia and throughout the globe. The high standards of the hotel and their restaurants are strictly adhered to by the Oriental Mandarin Shop and there you will find a first class European bakery and gourmet deli, as well as the same “Mariage Freres” teas from Paris that are excusivly found at the Mandarin Oriental hotels.

Brightly lit and decorated with white marble, ceiling-high glass walls and room dividers, crystal chandeliers, and classic gold accents, The Mandarin Oriental Shop is an elegant place to stop for a quick lunch, or visit and “take-away” some of their scrumptious delicacies. The deli has a variety of imported meats and sausages, but the homemade pate is the star of the show in the deli. If you love pâté, then be prepared to be enamored. The Mandarin Oriental usually has between 3-5 varieties of pâtés on display. The pâtés are smooth and creamy with generous amounts of top quality herbs, fruits, or nuts inside them. Favorites include the Onion and Aromatic Herb Pâté (130Baht) and the Pork and Mushroom Goose Liver Pâté (247Baht). The quiches available are simply a marvel. The Seafood Quiché (105) is literally bursting with shrimp, fish, and squid. The crust is buttery and flakey and the richness of the quiché makes it a luxurious and sensual food experience. Also recommended are the Iced Fruit Tea and the Cajun Chicken Salad (140Baht).

The Mandarin Oriental Shop also has some wonderful homemade ice creams, and a large selection of exquisite pastries, cakes, tarts, breads, croissants, and cookies. There is even an entire section dedicated to premium chocolates and truffles. If you feel like indulging in something decadent and gourmet, then treating yourself to a trip to the Mandarin Oriental Shop should be at the top of your list. It is a treasure trove of possibilities for pampering yourself, or finding something to pamper someone that you love.
