If you are near Asoke and looking to fill up fast for next to nothing, then the all you can eat lunch buffet at Pan Kitchen priced at 250 Baht a person is your best bet. The restaurant is located on the ground level inside the Tai Pan hotel and is only a block away from the Asoke BTS station and the Sukhumvit MRT station. Hours of operation are daily from 1130-1400 and they also have a daily breakfast buffet between the hours of 0600-1000 for only 150Baht a person. Visit the website for additional information at taipanhotel.com/pankitchen or call direct at 02 260 9888 / 02 260 9898.

The Tai Pan Hotel is a budget property and the décor is reminiscent of retro 1980’s restaurant design, but it is very clean, and quite charming. The bar area is large and inviting and they have live music played either by guitar or piano and the staff encourages diners to make song requests. The staff is exceptionally friendly and efficient and they go out of their way to make you feel right at home. The restaurant is child friendly and perfect for families on a budget.

The buffet includes unlimited drinks such as coffee, tea, juice and herbal drinks. There is a Sushi bar, a Spicy Thai Salad bar, Western Salad bar, Vietnamese Noodle bar, Thai dessert bar, Western dessert bar with ice cream, fresh fruit bar, and even a small pizza bar where you can choose toppings for small made-to-order pizzas. There are several soups and about 10 hot Thai and Western food entrees. The philosophy is definitely quantity over quality, but it would be unrealistic to expect gourmet fare at bottom basement prices. Most of the hot entrees served are reminiscent of cafeteria food, but the Deep Fried Chicken was rather tasty, and the salad bar, soups and fresh fruit, along with some of the desserts were pretty good. Obviously, the sushi is not high grade, but it is on par with what you typically find in Thailand (unless you go to a higher end restaurant) and you can’t go wrong if you stick to the vegetable sushi or cooked fish and shrimp sushi.

If you have a really refined palate, then this may not be the place for you. The Pan Kitchen Buffet is a great bargain because it is kid friendly and offers an unbelievable 50% discount for children 12 and under. It is conveniently located with easy access from BTS and MRT and is a good place to fill up without breaking the bank. The Lunch Buffet at Pan Kitchen is a good bargain for the money and the wide variety of choices is refreshing. The old saying that “you get what you pay for” really does not apply to Pan Kitchen Buffet because you actually get more than expected.
