In Bangkok, Nana may be well known for its night life and go go bars, but it also has some exciting and authentic Middle Eastern, Ha’al and Indian food for diners. One of the best spots for flavorful Indian and Middle Eastern food in Bangkok is at “Nasir Al Masri” Shisha and Egyptian restaurant. It is easy to get there on the BTS by taking the Ploenchit or the Nana exit. It is located at 4/6 Sukhumvit Soi 3/1 North Nana Bangkok, 02 253-5582, 02 254-7730. Open 24 hours a day, they serve Arabic, Indian & Thai food and you should be prepared for a one-of-a-kind experience. It’s easy to forget that you are still in Bangkok as you dine among the Shisha smokers (decorative water pipes used to smoke flavored tobacco) in this bright expanse of mirrors, chrome, marble and black & white checkered floors. But don’t let the over the top décor fool you, the food is excellent, and it’s food is some of the best in Bangkok.

The service is good, with a knowledgeable and friendly staff, but if you are on a budget, be sure to decline the Evian water that they set on the table. Although the pickled vegetable plate is complementary, the Evian water is anything but, priced at more than 60Bht a bottle, it can add a considerable amount to your bill if you are not aware of this before-hand. The lamb and rice Stuffed Vegetables 150Bahtand Dal 80Baht are some of he best around and perfectly complement the Butter Nan 30Baht which is to die for. The Arabic rice dishes such as Saffron Rice with Nuts 60Baht or the Vegetable Biryani 120Baht also go really well with some Hummus or the Tahini Salad 80Baht. Some of the better main dishes include the Mixed Grilled Lamb, Kabab & Chicken Tekka 200Baht and the Grilled Prawns 230Baht. Everything is grilled to perfection while retaining the natural juices of the meats. Another flavorful and comforting dish is the Tabbouleh (120Bht) which makes one marvel at how such fresh and simple ingredients can be combined into such a simply delicious flavor profile.

What makes the food at Nasir Al Masri so refreshing is that all of the food manages to be perfectly balanced with simple flavor combinations, without using any chilies or overpowering spices. If you’re looking for an out of the ordinary dining experience in Bangkok, look no further than Nasir Al Masri. With moderately priced meals and an excellent attention to quality and freshness, you won’t be disappointed with the myriad of options available at Nasir Al Masri in Nana.
